Shimo is a calm collected person which would be the exact opposite of his brother. This however does not mean he doesn't love or care for people or things, having met his wonderful wife of whom he's been married to for five years now. With her he's protective, kind hearted, and understanding with everyone around him but without her he goes back to his cold self. His brother always has a way to strike at a nerve which causes him to get hot headed at times but that is expected from brotherly rivalry. Shimo is a man of science, which is why he spends most of his time in the lab areas of Squad 12 working on developing and engineering devices that will help himself as well as the others inside of the Seireitei.
In combat, Shimo takes his fighting seriously and believes that the way of the sword is the only true way of the warrior. He shows no mercy to anyone he fights to the death, surrender is not an option when it comes to him because he will cut you down just as fast. In a good fight, Shimo will actually find himself enjoying every minute of it and will try to drag it out as long as he can should the opponent keep things interesting. He has no problem pointing out any flaws his opponent has against them in a fight, telling them where their weak spot in their guard is, that they're too slow or not strong enough. However if one does fight Shimo they will know one thing, he will give it everything he has in a fight to give them no regrets about losing to him should he win.

Battle Style:
Shimo's battle style was something he had acquired from his many years with Squad 11 and his many years since in using, training, and perfecting it. He rarely ever uses kido and as a result doesn't know as much as some of the other captains do but isn't ashamed to admit it since in his opinion a true warrior doesn't need such attacks. Instead, Shimo has solely focused on the physical combat with his zanpakto, bare hands, and his shunpo.
Shimo is naturally gifted with his zanpakto, and zanjutsu is his strongest attribute when it comes to combat. His varying strikes, strategist mind, and born abilities makes him a real threat. While he fights he always keeps his sword within its sheath until he plans to strike with it, using the quick draw method quite a bit for its speed and power in its strike along with its precision compared to swinging a sword wildly in the air. He is merciless in his strikes with his blade, trying his best to make his strikes either dispatch his opponent quickly or open their guard to get in and finish them off. He despises pulling his blade against an ally, even if its a spar and usually tries to keep it sheathed the entire time. Now combing with his sword would be his shunpo which he uses a lot when his fights to try and appear in an opponents blind spot for a deadly blow. He'll use it for evasion as well in case he needs to get some breathing room to think or to close the distance between him and an opponent to keep up the offensive.
He has also trained himself in some martial arts to help him keep alive if he was disarmed of his sword. It's used to keep his opponent at bay as he tries to get his sword back and this would be one of the times he would possibly use Kido to keep himself going.

.//BACKGROUND
Shimo Takahara Rengetsu is the eldest twin child in the Lower Noble house of Rengetsu, and grew up with his brother Mugen Rengetsu. At a very young age Shimo had to take the huge responsibility of taking care of his brother with his mom due to the fact his father was slain in the line of duty. Shimo was close with his mom since she was the only parent alive but would always give her the space she needed when she was having one of her bad sick days. This meant that Shimo had to make sure Mugen kept out of trouble, left mom alone when she needed to rest, and generally keep him entertained which was rather taxing on him because it was costing him his childhood in a way. Things however, would soon change for the two twins, because they both had found out they both had an impressive amount of reietsu which prompted them to leave their mother in the care of friends while they went to join the shinigami academy.
Taking the academy exam wasn't too hard for Shimo, and his score landed him in the advanced class where he studied and performed brilliantly. He didn't get to see his brother much in the academy which did unsettle him a bit but he felt it was for the best since they both needed to get used to being without one another. While Shimo practiced the ways of Kido in the academy, he found it rather difficult and a bit of time wasting so he mainly focused on what he was good at. Zanjutsu had been a natural gift with him, spending his free time as a child practicing with a wooden sword in the family courtyard or against his brother should Mugen have felt the want to test his luck. He also worked really hard with Ho Ho as well as having to deal with a situation where he would be without his sword and had to rely on his hand to hand ability. When the graduation day came, he felt he had grown enough to push on even further and knew his brother had come along way as well.
When he had finally graduated, Shimo had been placed in Squad 11 which suited him just fine for the moment. There he had gotten to fight rather interesting people with many different fighting styles and beliefs as well as gain his own belief in the process. It was here, after losing to the captain in a spar for the eighth time that he finally came up with his philosophy, that might controlled everything and without it you were doomed to lose everything and everyone you cared for. So Shimo trained, harder and harder, never turning down a chance to fight against anyone in the squad as he pushed on and on. It was then, after years of continuous work and training that he had finally gained enough power and awareness that he was able to speak to his zanpakto. The work and training went on, his quest to gain the power that his sword held inside and eventually he had obtained what he had sought by learning the blades name.
As he practiced using the blade's techniques whenever he could, he began to balance his squad's combat sessions with his new found interest, science. Shimo had begun drawing up different things he could see helping his fellow shinigami in the field to help reduce losses as well as things to help out in combat. It was this that had help him transfer from squad 11 into squad 12 where he was able to focus a bit more on his new area of study. It was around this time that he met the woman he would soon marry named Yael, knowing the moment he laid eyes upon her he was caught. Now he had to juggle three things at once, his affection with Yael, his training, and his scientific work but in the end it was all worth it because soon a life changing event had occurred.
A few hundred years after his marriage to Yael, his captain had succumb to an illness that claimed his life in the night. As a result, Shimo was given the captain exam due to his shown ability with his bankai but he also had a knack for what the squad represented which was research and development. It took him a while but he eventually gained the position as captain, accepting it with great honor and humility. He now runs the company with ever watching eyes, constantly working to keep the seireitei safe with whatever he can make for it.
